What is IQ?
An IQ, or Intelligence Quotient, is a score derived from a standardized test used to measure various aspects of a person’s intelligence. The tests aim to measure short and long-term memory. They also measure how well people can solve puzzles and recall information they’ve heard — and how quickly. There are a wide variety of IQ tests that attempt to measure these things, though there is no one approved test, and each have their strengths and weaknesses
Once a subject completes their chosen test, their score is then compared to the population as a whole to determine where their level of intelligence stands in comparison to a larger population and who have all undertaken the same standardized test.
What is an IQ test?
An IQ test is an assessment that measures a person’s range of cognitive abilities. Its score lays bare an individual’s intellectual abilities and potential, making IQ tests the most commonly administered psychological tests.
There are a number of IQ tests available on the market, including the free online IQ tests here at www.iqfreetest.com. Some are longer in length and aim to provide a more thorough interrogation and overview of an individual’s cognitive abilities, like our Official Free IQ test. But there are shorter versions of IQ tests as well, with our Quick free IQ test a great example, that gives quick and instant results in only 20 minutes.
What’s an average IQ?
An average IQ score is between 90 and 109
- An IQ score of 180 and up suggests someone is Profoundly gifted
- A score of 160 to 179 indicates that someone is Exceptionally gifted
- Scoring 145 to 159 suggests a person is Highly gifted
- IQ scores of 130 to 144 indicate someone is Moderately gifted
- IQ scores of 115 to 129 suggest someone is above average or bright
- A score between 90 and 109 is ‘normal or average intelligence’
- An IQ score between 80 and 89 suggests ‘lower than average cognitive abilities’
- Finally, an IQ score between 70 and 79 is classed as ‘Extremely Low’
When IQ scores are plotted on a graph, they typically follow a bell-shaped curve. The peak of the “bell” occurs where the majority of the scores lie. The bell then slopes down to each side; one side represents lower than average scores and the other side represents scores that are above the average.
How to take a Free IQ test?
Professionals trained in psychology can administer IQ tests, though these can be costly and hard to organise. It is possible to find IQ tests online, though a lot of companies still charge for these tests, or let the user complete the test, only to withhold their results at the end and charge a fee. Here at www.iqfreetest.com, our bespoke designed IQ tests are completely free of charge and can be taken in minutes to give you a great idea of where you lie on the bell curve. Just click either of the buttons above, and see what score you get for your free quick IQ test or our official free IQ test.
Why take a free IQ test?
IQ scores are used for educational placement, assessment of intellectual disability, and evaluating job applicants. In research contexts, IQ scores have been studied as predictors of job performance and income. They are also used to study distributions of psychometric intelligence in populations and the correlations between it and other variables. With so many uses, it is both interesting and helpful to take an IQ test and get an understanding of your cognitive strengths and weaknesses.
